So few people take advantage of posting here it’s a shame to let this forum facility lie idle.
There must be at least a hundred and more walking footballers about to descend upon Heywood Sports Village for the Spring sessions of the GMWFL. It really doesn’t seem more than three or four weeks since the Autumn ’17 sessions finished on December 1st. Who knows where the time goes?

This time, our first division team The Nash Amblers will be back, but The Nash Bees are staying in their hives in this cold weather. Despite a promising debut Autumn season in Division Three. The players , the kit and the ethos will be resurrected for friendly games and may well buzz back into competition at some point. For now though it’s the Amblers alone, looking to improve on two successive runners up spots.

In the new Over 65 league Tameside Striders will be making their debut in league walking football. Having sampled the great facilities at Heywood we could not resist a return with our more senior players The Denton based team look forward to a non-contact campaign with good Referees. Both groups of players know each other well and the league sessions augment an already busy calendar at Curzon Ashton F.C. and King Street Denton, home of Denton Youth F.C.

It’s to be hoped as the season progresses that other group organisers or individual players will comment here, surely the natural home for anything GMWF. The organisers have been innovative – why not support that and use this handy facility to get things off your chest, positive or even negative (not too negative it should be hoped).

What do you think of the new rule changes? Penalty kicks for aggressive play for instance?

To all teams and players about to embark on a new season Good Luck, and if our paths cross let’s hope for a good, clean game played in a spirit that epitomises what walking football should be about. I just hope there’s a few more goals to celebrate this time.
We hope to do well, but if we don’t then taking part in a good competition will be enough…Alan Richards
