Manchester Corinthians Over 60’s played their first ever competitive game against Leeds Titans today, Sunday 11th March. The final score in a hard fought game against a very strong Titans team was a 9-5 victory for the Corinthians. Paul O’Neil 4, Dave Wilde 2, Kevin Williams 2 and John Bee 1, were the scorers.

Back Row Left To Right: Dave Wilde, Alan Morton, Steve Colesby, John Bee, Kevin Williams.
Front Row Left To Right: Paul ONeil, Ron Blakeley, Val Mears.

Considering the strength of the opposition and that this was the first time the team had played together it was a satisfactory performance. An early injury to Alan Morton left the Corinthians with a bare squad of six. Thankfully, 72 year old Steve Colesby who only came to watch, donned his kit and strengthened the defence at a time when we were under pressure.

All the lads played well today and we looked a really strong team which can only get better. With another seven in the squad who were unavailable today the outlook is positive and it will be interesting to see how far we can progress in the National Over 60’s Tournament.

Thanks to the lads who turned out today, John Bee, Ron Blakeley, Steve Colesby, Val Mears, Alan Morton, Paul O’Neil, Dave Wilde and Kevin Williams.

The Manchester Corinthians first friendly is an over 60’s fixture away against Leeds Titans on Sunday 11th March.
