Lancashire & Cheshire Over 60s Walking Football Cup 2025
On a fine hot day at Heywood, this was the third occasion that this competition has been held, the first two played at the Cheshire FA HQ in Northwich. In previous years, the winners and runners up from the Cheshire FA WFL and the Greater Manchester WFL contested the cup.
The 2023 winners and runners up were Kingsmaid and Wakefield Wanderers respectively from the GMWFL. The report is HERE.
In 2024 the winners and runners up were Bolton Arena from the GMWFL and Neston Nomads from the Cheshire FA WFL. The report is HERE.
This year, two teams from the Lancashire Mixed League were invited, Bolton Arena and BA Giants to make it a six team event, played at the Heywood Sports Village. The Cheshire FA teams were Culcheth Amblers and Stockport County Hatters. The GMWFL teams were Blackpool Senior Seasiders and Winstanley Walkers.
The results were –
The overall winners were Winstanley Walkers, with Blackpool Senior Seasiders coming runners up. With both these teams gaining the most points so far, the final match was between these two. Blackpool took the lead with the score 2-0, and with only 5 minutes to the final whistle, it looked as though they had won the cup. However, Winstanley came strongly back to make the score 2-2, which would have meant that the Seasiders would be the cup winners by one point. In football, you can never be sure of anything, and Winstanley scored again in the final minute to secure the trophy.

Having enjoyed playing against the NW sides in the WFLA League Champions Cup last weekend in Coleshill, we Godalming, were inquiring if there is a possibility that we could be invited as guests to your Lancaster and Cheshire walking football cup in 2026. We would come up and stay for the weekend and hope to socialise in any functions around the tournament.
Hello Derek, unfortunately the Lancashire & Cheshire Cup is for the winners and runners up in those counties. However, hopefully the Isle of Man and possibly the Birmingham County WFL will make a visit in 2026. If that happens, then Godalming could represent the Surrey FA WFL or the Middlesex FA WFL.
