GMWFL Teams Feature In The WFLA National Cup Grand Finals
The Walking Football Leagues Alliance National Cup Grand Finals were played on 9th and 10th September at the Redditch Utd FC ground in Worcestershire.
Featuring were the GMWFL clubs in various age categories, Bolton Arena (over 50s), Kingsmaid (over 60s), Manchester Corinthians (over 70s) and Wakefield Wanderers (over 60s & over 65s). Also featuring were Blackburn Rovers (over 65s with all team members playing for various clubs in the GMWFL), Bolton Arena Ladies (over 40s) and Manchester FC Ladies (over 50s, again with members of various GMWFL clubs).
It proved to be a great weekend for the Greater Manchester clubs with Bolton Arena winning the over 50s, Bolton Arena Ladies winning the over 40s and Manchester Corinthians becoming National Champions in the over 70s age category. Manchester FC Ladies missed out on runners up spot on goal difference, a great performance considering most had never played together before. Blackburn Rovers also won the over 65s.
Thanks to Joy Mason and Lesley Wright for organising and managing the Manchester FC Ladies team.

After the first five fixtures, Manchester Corinthians 70s were trailing Little Oakley by two points with just the one game remaining for both clubs. That fixture as often happens in football was the head to head between these two teams.
Corinthians needed a win to become Champions. There was never any doubt who would win this encounter, Corinthians had 80% of the play. Their possession and passing was superb and Little Oakley couldn’t cope with it. It finished 2-0 to Corinthians and could have been more. A tremendous performance by the WFLA National Over 70s Champions.
